Farmhouse Inspired Tropical House Rooted in Nosara’s Landscape.

Nosara Finca Chica is a farmhouse inspired tropical house located in Nosara, Costa Rica, designed in close dialogue with its natural surroundings. The architecture combines the clarity of farmhouse principles with a relaxed tropical attitude, creating a home that feels grounded and timeless. The form and orientation respond directly to climate and landscape, allowing the house to sit naturally within its setting.

Indoor Outdoor Living Shaped by Structure and Space.

Indoor outdoor living is central to the design, with open living areas extending seamlessly toward terraces and garden spaces. Extensive structural glulam beams define these spaces, allowing for generous spans and open layouts while expressing the structure as an architectural feature. The exposed beams and warm wood tones reinforce a sense of openness and create a strong visual connection between interior and exterior.

Climate Responsive Design for a Tropical Farmhouse Lifestyle.

The house integrates passive strategies suited to the Nosara climate, including deep roof overhangs, shaded outdoor zones, and cross ventilation. The elevated roof structure formed by glulam beams supports airflow and reduces heat buildup, helping the home remain comfortable year round with minimal reliance on mechanical cooling. These strategies reflect a thoughtful approach to tropical architecture rooted in simplicity and performance.

Wood Features Creating a Midcentury Organic Character.

Wood plays a defining role throughout the project, from the structural glulam beams to carefully detailed interior and exterior elements. These features introduce warmth and rhythm while referencing a midcentury organic design language that feels both modern and familiar. The combination of natural materials and clean lines results in a calm architectural expression that ages gracefully over time.

Privacy and Retreat Within a Farmhouse Inspired Tropical Home.

Despite its openness, the layout carefully balances shared living areas with private retreats. Bedrooms are positioned to feel quiet and protected, while common spaces encourage gathering and connection. This balance allows Finca Chica to function equally well as a permanent residence or a relaxed tropical getaway, offering comfort, clarity, and a strong sense of place.
