A Contemporary Family Home Rooted in Earth Based Design.

Pumas Residence was conceived as a contemporary family home deeply connected to its site in the Osa region. From the outset, the owner defined clear material requirements, favoring earth based construction and a green roof as core design principles. Rather than sitting on the land, the building is shaped to emerge from it, allowing the architecture to visually and physically integrate into the surrounding jungle while maintaining a modern, restrained expression.

Owner Defined Material Choices Shaping Tropical Comfort and Performance.

The selection of rammed earth walls and natural materials was a key requirement from the owner and became central to the architectural concept. Beyond their visual character, these materials provide excellent thermal mass, naturally regulating interior temperatures in the tropical climate and reducing reliance on mechanical cooling. The green roof further enhances insulation and reinforces the home’s connection to the landscape.

An Architectural Response to Living in Balance with the Osa Landscape.

The design responds carefully to the site’s topography, vegetation, and climate, translating the owner’s sustainability driven vision into a functional family home. Openings are positioned to frame views, promote cross ventilation, and ensure privacy, while the layout supports everyday living with simplicity and clarity. Pumas Residence demonstrates how strong client requirements and thoughtful architectural responses can result in a home that feels both grounded and refined.
